He and his brother, who was killed in a raid in 2012, got their start as gunmen for the now defunct leftist guerrilla group known as the Popular Liberation Army. Otoniel for years flew under the radar of authorities by eschewing the high profile of Colombia’s better known narcos. The gang has about 1,200 armed men – most of them former members of far-right paramilitaries – and is present in 10 of Colombia’s 32 provinces.Īuthorities said intelligence provided by the US and UK led more than 500 soldiers and members of Colombia’s special forces to Otoniel’s jungle hideout, which was protected by an eight rings of security. One police officer died during the operation, Duque said.Īfter stints as a leftwing guerrilla and later paramilitary, Otoniel, 50, rose to become the leader of the criminal gang Clan del Golfo, or Gulf Clan, a drug trafficking group. “This blow is only comparable to the fall of Pablo Escobar in the 1990s.”

Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Neeraj Menon are also back with this issue’s Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary cover depicting a scene between Leia and Han rivet after she frees him from his carbonite prison in the film.“This is the biggest blow against drug trafficking in our country this century,” Duque said during a broadcast video message. Mateus Manhanini brings us another breathtaking Black History Month variant cover with a stunning portrait of Lt. Giuseppe Camuncoli and Jesus Aburtov supply the main cover for Bounty Hunters #31 which sees an intense scene of Darth Vader Force choking Valance in the air with flames covering the background. Their entire fight is set during a rainstorm, and the rain is done so well it feels like you’re watching events unfold in real life as opposed to on the page. The three of them do a fantastic job throughout this entire issue, but the best thing is the work Villanelli and Prianto do during the fight scenes between Valance and Vader. The artistic team behind Bounty Hunters #31 consists of artist Paolo Villanelli, colorist Arif Prianto, and letterer VC’s Travis Lanham. This event has been building very slowly over the course of many issues of Valance working for Vader and it was only a matter of time before an epic confrontation of sorts were to happen, and Sacks writes it wonderfully. This issue is one of the most intense ones so far, and that’s saying something, as we see Valance go so dark that even Vader mentions how intense he is. Writer Ethan Sacks usually either brings the action or the emotions, and is always top notch at both, but with Bounty Hunters #31 he has crafted an issue that puts both action and emotional drama front and center and does it beautifully. In another part of the galaxy we find General Vukorah, newly self appointed leader of the Unbroken Clan, listening in on a conversation between two of her subordinates that sounds more than a little treasonous! Fortunately for him, T’onga is there as well and willing to help keep him alive as best as she can. Bounty Hunters #31 finds Valance confronting the Dark Lord with an immense amount of fury and anger trying to take him out. Beilert Valance has recently found out that all the promises Darth Vader made him, specifically to not harm Cadeliah or the people taking care of her, were thrown out the window.
